QA Testers Usurp the Throne!
At the most recent developer meeting, a motion was passed that that empowers the
Quality Assurance Team to halt development! Can you believe that? Well, it’s true! And it wasn’t QAs idea!
But the truth is that QA testers often have a better ‘feel’ for how things are going on the TC than developers do.
Our core group of dedicated testers are on the TC every day. They are aware of the subtle changes that take place. They notice when features behave differently and they know when something ‘bad’ has happened. So now, QA has the ability to say
“HOLD IT! Something is going wrong here!”
Our current crop of empowered daily testers includes
DangleJangles, Hoonius, Hakry,
JohnShandy, Linkman214,
Nebula, Obi-Two, Tomcat and
Vasilli. Some are testers of many years and others are new to
ANH. But these are the folks we can rely on to be here, and be consistent, and do the job. Thanks to all of you for your dedication and hard work.
Other Tester News
Hakry has been promoted and joins
Tomcat and
Linkman as a lead tester! Congrats, Hakry! It is well deserved and overdue.
We welcome new testers
JudgeDread and Vanzant! They are just getting set up, so it may be a day or two before we see them in chat. Glad to have you both!
Dev News
More busy days at
SWG:ANH! The core devs are working on the ‘backend’ to improve stability and performance. Their goal is to reduce lag, and improve load times and memory usage.
Apathy continues to construct and update our documentation, while
Snow prepares to move us to a new source control system. This new system will enable better branching and merging as we prepare for… uh, well, as we prepare for the, ah…, changes…, yes, the changes, that are coming to
SWG:ANH.
Devs continue to prepare for the preview by fixing many little bugs that were easy to ignore, but will surely be noticed by our guests. These include things like radial options that are numbered 1) 2) 3) 4) 1) or a system message that says “You stop listening to Flas because him is too far away.”
Preview News
Decisions have been made on dates for the preview. This weekend, March 27, we will have an internal ‘dry run.' We will test the invitation system by sending an invite email to the thirty current members of SWG:ANH. These thirty people will go to the preview website to obtain a user name, password and to test our new installer. Then they will log into the test center, and do what players do, for several hours. If you are a current developer, toolmaker, tester, researcher, or moderator, you should expect to see the email on Tuesday. Please read it and follow the instructions carefully!
We hope this ‘dry run’ will alert us to any potential issues that could arise on April 3d, the day of the ‘Friends and Family’ preview. This preview is for past and present members of SWG:ANH. There are about 215 people on the list. Any former members, who wish to confirm that they will be invited, please pm me on the forums with a current email address and the name you used when you were here.)
After these two events, we should have the information we need to prepare for the
public previews. But I suspect after all that excitement, the devs may need a weekend or two to catch up on household chores, pay attention to disgruntled family members, and all the other things that have been neglected during this push!
But shortly after that, you can expect the first public preview. These will increase in frequency and length as time passes. We hope that everyone will have an opportunity to come see the
SWG:ANH TC before too long.
Changes are happening at SWG:ANH!
